Hi Heffy Doodle friends!

I’m so happy to be back on the Heffy Doodle blog today. I had so much fun making this card, so I’m excited to share the process with you today.

I am always very insecure about coloring images. I find it so hard to choose colors that go together. Sometimes it works, sometimes it just doesn’t. For this card, I didn’t stamp cutesy images nor did I have to color. Just stenciling and ink blending, which is my all time favorite technique.

I started by die cutting the largest of the Stitched Rounded Rectangles out of Bristol Smooth cardstock. I picked out a few Distress Oxides to create a rainbow colored background: Worn Lipstick, Dried Marigold, Squeezed Lemonade, Twisted Citron and Peacock Feathers. I started with the yellow one in the middle and I worked my way outwards to create a whole rainbow. When the ink blending was done, I splattered on some clear water. I just love that look.

Tip: Make sure to overlap the colors and go back and forth between them to create a smooth blend.

I placed my blended background on my Make Art station and put the Broad Strokes stencil on top. I smeared on a bit of Lawn Fawn Fairy Dust stencil paste. This adds a little bit of shine and interest to the card panel. I set my panel aside to dry while I work on my second panel.

Tip: Always clear your supplies immediately after working with pastes: so your working station, your stencil and your spatula. If you let it dry, your supplies are ruined and we don’t want that to happen!

Then I took the second smallest of those same Stitched Rounded Rectangles and die cut that again out of the same Bristol Smooth cardstock. I placed it on top of my Make Art Station and placed the Rainbow Builder stencil on top. I started with the outside of the rainbow with Wilted Violet and worked my way in to complete the rainbow. I used the colors: Wilted Violet, Abandoned Coral, Kitsch Flamingo, Dried Marigold, Squeezed Lemonade, Twisted Citron and Peacock Feathers. A lot of the colors matched my background, as you can see.

I also added a little bit of Tumbled Glass around the rainbow, to give it a little bit of extra color. I didn’t like the rainbow on a stark white background.

I took the ‘get well’ sentiment out of the Everyday Sentiment Duos stamp set and stamped it with Versafine Onyx Black ink on that smaller panel, above the rainbow. Versafine ink is a go to ink for stamping sentiments!

When my background panel was dry, I adhered my smaller rainbow panel on top with Heffy Doodle foam tape. I also placed the whole background panel on an A2 white card base, again with foam tape for added dimension. Those simple cards really need dimension to make them just a little more special in my opinion…

I trimmed off the corners of the card base with my scissors, so the recipient will get a ‘shaped’ card with those rounded corners.

Rainbow cards always make me super happy so I hope the recipient will feel a little bit better after receiving this one too!

Thank you SO much for reading along and have a fantastic day!

Love, Jarle x
