Hi you!

Today, I’m joining Simon Says Stamp again as the Designer in the Spotlight of the SSS Wednesday Challenge.

I hope you’ll be inspired by my work! Now let’s get crafty…

SSS designer spotlight

This week’s theme is ‘Making your own background’ with Tim Holtz as the artist in the spotlight. I wanted to make a card that has just a very simple design so the background could stand out. And I really wanted to use my all time favorite inks: Tim Holtz’ Oxides!

SSS new challenge

I started with stamping out the cute Santa bear from the Lawn Fawn – Oh What Fun mini stamp set. I stamped it on my Bristol Smooth paper, using Versafine Onyx Black ink. I used my Zigs to color in the images. The colors I used: Red, Oatmeal, Light Carmine, Dull Blue, Ochre, Fog Gray. For the first time, I used the Zig Blender to fade out the colors. I really liked the result so I’m sure I will be using this again.

To create my card panel, I again cut my Bristol Smooth paper in the size I wanted ( small and skinny. I masked off the hill with some Post-It Tape. I’m a big fan of Tim Holtz’ Distress Oxides so I really wanted to use them this week. I chose ‘Picked Raspberry‘, ‘Wilted Violet‘ and ‘Blueprint Sketch‘ to create my sky. I splattered some water and white gouache onto the panel.

To make this card just a little bit more special, I decided my Santa had to slide off the snowy hill I created. I took a scrap of Neenah Solar White paper and traced down my hill on that paper. I cut it out, so I had a piece to create the slider mechanism. First, I stamped my sentiment and for my slider, I used the Mama Elephant – Straight Sliders.

Kelly Marie Alvarez from Lawn Fawn explains very clearly how to create such a mechanism in this video.

I assembled the mechanism and then adhered everything on my slim card base. I really like how this card turned out.

Tim, hope you’ll be better very soon!

I hope I gave you some inspiration to make someone’s heart happy.

Love, Jarle x

This is beautiful! I love Oxide blended backgrounds too, they are so, so gorgeous!
    Thanks for the inspiration!
I have a post for the Lawn Fawnatics challenge 57 that I made lots of different Oxide blends for!
I’ve started a blog about my life with chronic illness, and how art & craft help me cope, maybe you’d like to check it out? I’d love to see you there! Either way I look forward to reading more about your creations.

Thank you so much for your kind words! I will definitely check out your blog too! Hope you’re doing okay at this moment. I also find my crafting very therapeutic… Much cheaper than seeing a therapist every week (I think 😉 )
