Hi you!
Today I’m joining Simon Says Stamp again as the Designer in the Spotlight of the SSS Wednesday Challenge. I’m so excited!
This week’s theme is ‘BACK TO SCHOOL’. Here in Belgium, the vacation just about started 🙂 But hey… It’s always fun to create a school themed card! (Or ANY card whatsoever). I decided to make a simple interactive card, using Simon Says Stamp supplies.
If you like my cards, go check out my Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/handmadecards_by_jarle/

To start, I trimmed a piece of Bristol Smooth paper to the right size (A2), using my Tim Holtz guillotine trimmer. I took my Misti and stamped the image from the SSS – School Bus Messages onto the card panel. For this card, I chose Gina K Amalgam Ink to stamp everything. It’s a very crisp black ink and it works for all coloring mediums!
I also stamped the image onto some SSS – Masking Paper. I cut it out with my scissors and attached it to my panel. I could start the process of ink blending. I used the Distress Oxides in Hickory Smoke, Tumbled Glass and Faded Jeans. I splattered on some water and removed the mask from my panel.
I LOVE to watercolor with my Zigs, so that’s exactly what I did to color the bus. Below, you can find all the colors I used:
- Pale Yellow / Yellow
- Dark Oatmeal / Deep Brown
- Fog Gray / Gray Brown
- Wine Red
- Haze Blue
- Persian Green
- Black

I always start by putting down the lightest color and blending it out with a wet paintbrush. After that, I go in with a slightly darker color and blend that out once again. For me, that’s the easiest way to create highlights and shadows.
I put the panel in my Misti again, and stamped the sentiment from that same stamp set. You could always choose to do this in the beginning of the process as well, but I didn’t know which sentiment I wanted on the card just yet 😉
To gain a bit of interest on the card, I die cut the Mama Elephant – Gatefold X Fence two times. I folded this around my card panel to create a school fence. After that, I put everything on my A2 sized card base.
To make sure the recipient could close the card, I cut out a long skinny piece of paper (Lawn Fawn – Gotta Have Gingham paper). I folded it along the card and attached the two ends with a bit of glue on the back.

I hope I gave you some inspiration to make someone’s heart happy.
Love, Jarle x
